Another sunny Sunday in the greater Victoria area! Our captains were excited to leave the dock and discover what animals were around for the day!!

We caught up with humpbacks hanging out in the waters south of Victoria. These gentle giants are here to feed in our nutrient rich waters for the summer! They were first spotted near Race Rocks Ecological Park, a chain of islands littered with the local pinnipeds. Being so close, a stop in was a must! Most seals and sea lions bask in the sun along the rocks and are often heard barking at one another.

A pod of Biggs Orca (mammal eaters) popped up in the afternoon, so we went for it! That means our passengers got the chance to encounter two different whale species!! Another great day on the water.

Another sunny day in Victoria, it feels like spring is turning into summer as we gear up for peak whale watching season! 

Our captains were excited to leave the dock, and discover what was going on in the Salish Sea. It wasn't long before they picked up Biggs Orca and Humpback whales, we are so lucky that our local waters can support so much life!!

Orca travel fast, and by the afternoon they were far North of Victoria. Good thing our vessels are faster, and we were able to reach them on our afternoon trips!! A group of guests got to witness several orca chasing a sea lion, although this is something they are good at, the sea lion prevailed.

Happy Mothers day!!!! A beautiful Sunday in the greater Victoria area, and calm seas made for amazing whale watching conditions!

Captain Gordon, Russ, and Kaegan headed out to see what they could find in the Salish Sea for the day. It wasn't long before Humpback and Gray whales were encountered feeding in the Juan de Fuca Strait!! In the afternoon there were reports of Biggs orca (mammal eaters) northeast of Victoria, it was a long trip but Captain Russ decided to go for it!

Clear skies brought a lot of sunshine to the greater Victoria area! Captain Russ and Gordon could not wait to leave the dock and discover who was in the Salish Sea for the day!

Captain Gordon picked up a pod of Biggs orca (mamal eaters) in the morning, just south of Race Rock Ecological Park!! Orca pods consist of a mother and her offspring, this pod in particular had a newly born calf!! It was quite a treat for our passengers, the small whale stayed close to moms side as they cruised through the Juan de Fuca Strait.

We are beginning to gear up for peak season, and the first week of May has come and gone quickly!!! With several days of sun and favorable wind conditions, BC Tika and Orca have spent a lot of time on the water. Recently we have seen several humpbacks, a curious minke whale and plenty of seals and sea lions!

Yesterday Bigg's Orca (mammal eaters) where encountered throughout the day, as they scanned the area for prey. They were sighted early in the morning heading north through Puget Sound, and soon they were in range. Captain Russ hung out with them on the morning tour, but on the way home he picked up a second pod! Way to go Captain!

The weather was ugly as another storm rolled through the Victoria area. High winds kept our fleet off the water in the morning, but Captain Gordon took an afternoon trip on BC LUNA. She is the perfect vessel for such weather because of her heated cabin and ability to handle rough seas. 

Captain Gordon headed west and got to encountered humpback whales off of Race Rocks Ecological Reserve! In the heart of the park are a hand full of small islands that make a great haul out site for several species of seals and sea lions. They can often be seen relaxing on the rocks, or swimming through the kelp forests.

Today is the last day of the season, and Captain Russ is heading out on BC TIKA to see who's in the area for the last time in 2017!

It was overcast all day in the Victoria area, luckily the winds were low and the waters were calm making it easy to spot "blows" of cetaceans as they came to the surface to breathe.

Captain Gordon left the dock excited to see who was in the local waters for the day! Encountered were several individual humpback whales. They were relaxing and feeding, seemingly enjoying their weekend! These gentle giants are known to show off their tail fluke before descending on a deep dive giving our guests the famous shot!

The day began with high winds that steadily increased throughout the day, creating rough seas. Luckily BC LUNA is great for weather conditions like this, so she went out on a morning tour!

Captain Gordon caught up with two different pods of Biggs Ocra (mammal eaters) headed West in the Juan De Fuca Strait. They often remain close to the shore line where they find their favorite prey, harbor seals! These apex predators need to eat frequently, so they can often be seen hunting and eating. 

Humpbacks were also encountered near Race Rocks feeding and relaxing, it wont be too long before most of them head South for the winter to mate and calve.
