Sightings Report for July 3 2018

What a perfect day for whale watching!!!! The sun was shining all day with calm winds, and flat seas. Report of whales came in before our captains left the dock, so they couldn't wait to see who was in the area!

Our fleet encountered Biggs Orca (mammal eaters) northeast of Victoria throughout the day! There were several pods identified as the T175's, T176A's and T99's, travelling and scanning the area for prey! A great and rare experience, as these whales are not often seen in our area!!

By the afternoon some more pods joined the large group, and there was over 20 whales feeding in and around active pass! In this area there are strong currents with lots of nutrients and obviously good eating!

Sightings Report for July 2 2018

What a great way to start the week! The sun was shining, and unlike yesterday the winds were calm. Our captains were excited for another day on the Salish Sea!

In the morning our vessels encountered several sleepy humpback whales as they relaxed in the Juan de Fuca Strait. Spotted out by Sooke was K pod of the Southern Resident Orca population!!!! This ecotype is endangered because Chinook Salmon, their primary food source, are scarce. We were excited to see this pod, as they don't often frequent the area! They are the smallest pod of the Southern Residents, and were seen a couple of days ago near Tofino! They didnt hang around long and were headed back to the open Pacific before the end of the day. We hope they can find the food they need!!

On our afternoon trips Biggs Orca (mammal eaters) also got picked up west of Victoria! We love peak season because that means our passengers get to interact with all different types of whales, and see how they make a living in the surrounding waters!

Happy Canada Day!!! The wind was up and continued to build throughout the day! The water conditions deteriorated quickly so we had to cancel our afternoon trips.

In the morning BC Tika, BC Luna and BC Orca went out to discover who was in the area for the day and it wasnt long before reports of Biggs Orca (mammal eaters) came in!! They were spotted northeast of Victoria scanning the area for potential prey, including seals, and porpoise!

Our guests were in for a rough ride on the way back to the harbor, but everyone enjoyed themselves and they stayed pretty dry!

It was a gloomy Saturday to end the month of June. Good thing the whales are already wet and don't care about the rain!!

A group of  Biggs orca (mammal eaters) was picked up Northeast of Victoria off of Galiano Island! They were headed towards us as they scanned the Salish Sea for potential prey. Our guests got to encounter this pod all day, watching them successfully hunt harbor seals!!

Sightings Report for June 27th 2018

The day began sunny with calm winds, however they did build throughout the day so we had to move our sunset tour passengers to an afternoon trip! Our Captains were eager to leave the dock as there was reports that the Southern Resident Orca's (salmon eaters) were headed into the Salish Sea!!!

We are very excited that they are back, and hope that they can find the food they need to stay!! We have a lot of respect for these whales and hold them close to our hearts. Our boats are designed to have a low noise rating and our captains always abide by the whale wise regulations to ensure a positive encounter for everyone!!

Sightings Report for June 26th 2018

It was another sunny day, the wind built into the evening but nothing our vessels cant handle!

Early reports of Biggs Orca (mammal eaters) came in before our captains left the dock! The whales were spotted near the mouth of Puget Sound in Washington State. They moved quickly as they foraged their way through the area.

In the afternoon they were just about out of range but our captains caught up to them! We also got to encounter humpbacks throughout the Juna de Fuca Strait.

Sightings Report for June 25th 2018

The month has flown by, as we gear up for Canada Day! Yesterday was a windy day, meaning the waters would be choppy. Good thing our vessels and Captains handle rough seas well!!

Reports of Biggs Orca (mammal eaters) came in as our Captains left the dock with BC TIKA, LUNA, and NOVA! They were seen north of Orcas Island, chasing and hunting prey. Their diet consists mostly of harbour seals and porpoise, and we often encounter them chowing down! By afternoon the pods were near Vancouver and quickly moving out of range. The pods were identified as T65A's and T49A's, who are known to hang out together!

Humpback whales were encountered in the afternoon!! They were seen foraging throughout the Salish sea. We are so lucky to have local waters that can support so much life!!!
