Sighting Report May 7, 2017

We received the rumoured reports of Orca traveling towards Victoria from the west early in the morning.  Our morning expedition (Capt. Russ) was incredibly excited, as we haven't encountered the Residential population for over a month.  As he headed out he encountered members of J Pod (Southern Resident Killer Whale) population just south of Race rocks ecological reserve.  He later confirmed it was the J16s foraging on long deep dives as they slowly travelled east.  Other members of J pod were further north traveling past the waterfront of Victoria, BC (just a mile or so off shore).

Our afternoon expedition also had encounters with members of J pod as well as other marine mammals including sea lions and seals.

It was a great way to spend a sunny Sunday on the water with our beloved members of SRKWs.
